On Michael Vick

Anyone who knows me knows I don't do sports. But this article was interesting.....

p.s. I've got a dollar and a smile for anyone who knows how I can catch "Two Live Stews" through the internet (the show doesn't run on either D.C. or Chicago radio as far as I know).

This is a really excellent article, Kismet. I am interested in what you have to say about it.

I think the author makes excellent connections about the root causes of violence... society condones and celebrates violence in so many places, especially sports. And then they want to demonize this football player for his violent behavior toward dogs? That is crazy!

This was the best part of the article for me:

"Whether Vick is guilty is for the courts to decide. Meanwhile, let's turn the magnifying glass on a society that condones so much violence in war, film and sport. Let's question the media's rush to judgment when the violence spills over into a shadow game where animals are brutally exploited in the service of violent entertainment. Let's ask why some of these fans can decry the treatment of dogs but barely acknowledge the pain of Earl Campbell. And let's all wonder whether just this once, the media will take a nice cold shower and reflect for just a moment on the role they played in this hypocrisy."

This issue and topic will make a great discussion piece for youth workshops as part of the Visions to Peace Project. Thanks for sharing it.
