Additions and Corrections to Obama Rally Live Blogging

I decided I'm not going to a summary post on the live blogging Obama experience. It might take away from what I did on the fly and I wouldn't want that. All I said I meant in that moment--if upon reflection my opinion has changed, the best way to reflect that is in future posts on the variety of issues that were talking about.

But I CAN do an additions and corrections post. Because there were more than a couple:

According to the
authorities, Comcast Center seats 17,950 people. It is about 1/3 full right now and the doors were supposed to open at 10:30 (they opened early). Will Obama really fill up this entire stadium? I'm an Obamaholic but I've got a skeptical/cynical streak still...
Um, yeah, shame on me. Because the Comcast Center was almost FULL. And by almost, I mean that I think there were, what?, 20 seats left somewhere in the nosebleed section behind me? No. Really. 20 seats. Out of 17,950. When the Diamondback predicted thousands, they weren't lying.

...Star-Spangled Banner just got freaked by a woman whose name I don't remember
...
I am sorry, I really didn't catch her name but she did a wonderful job and I would love to record it here for posterity. Or for my memory. So if anyone knows it, please leave it in the comments.

...Then Mary J. Blige comes on right after...
My mother read this and got the mistaken impression that Mary J. was actually AT the event. Sorry, Mom. Not this time. It was just the DJ. Maybe next time. Preferrably at the '08 DNC when he secures the nomination....

...The lady next to me asked if I'd seen Hilary speak. I haven't, but I would like to. Too bad she doesn't seem to come into the D.C. Metro area. She's somewhere in Bowie today I think....
Actually Hillary was also in D.C. today speaking at an event sponsored by the National Council of Negro Women and championing D.C. statehood/voting rights. Let it not be said I'm even handed in my delivery....

...Someone in the pool of folks on the ground floor just got arrested...
Still looking for updates on this. But it was probably just what I said--some Terp mouthing off.

...Antoine from the Wire opened and introduced Sterling Brown, the campus representative/leader who did his spiel...
Change Antoine to Anwan Glover ("Slim Charles") of the Wire.

...Here are a few to chew on by Marc Lamont Hill, Rikyah over at J&J Politics, and the oh so fabulous with her Chi-town-ness Michelle Obama (thanks Ti!).....And that reminds me of something I saw somewhere (will look it up later when I'm not trying to keep up with his speech) about whether or not "really need a black face as the face of imperialism in the world?"
This a combo addition and correction. The quote on imperialism is by Glen Ford who is referenced by Jack Turner of Jack and Jill Politics in a post I originally attributed to Rikyah at Jack and Jill Politics earlier in my post. Whew! Now that all the hat tips are fully documented, you can jump right to the quote which is in a Glen Ford v. Michael Eric Dyson debate on Democracy Now! Find it here.

"John F. Kennedy said, 'We should never negotiate out of fear and we should never fear to negotiate...." (Correct me if I get that quote wrong) That's at least the third famous leader he's referenced....
The actual quote is: "Let us never negotiate out of fear but let us never fear to negotiate." Hear it here.

I think that's about it. If you are in Virginia, Maryland or D.C. tomorrow make sure you GO VOTE!
